Westkapelle 2013

I spent last week in Westkapelle, partly for observing gulls and partly for relaxation. Due to the fair weather and winds from the East not many gulls were present and reading ringed gulls felt sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack. Below are the ones that I was able to take photos of.

European Herring Gulls

Adult female European Herring Gull, ringed in Holland. The color ring should actually be on the tibia instead of the tarsus. I'm not sure if it is placed on the tarsus on purpose or whether is has slipped down. Westkapelle, 4 October 2013.

Rings from the colony of Texel

The ringed gulls that I was most pleased to come across were those from the gull colony of Texel, a colony that I visit regularly each year. These gulls are on their way south to spend the winter in places like France (Herring Gull),  and Spain or Portugal (Lesser Black-backed Gulls). It would be nice if they could be observed there this winter.
