Common Gull with deep tongue on P8 – 20090728

Adult Common Gull Larus canus, 28 July 2009, Valkenburg, The Netherlands.

This individual is moulting to basic (non-breeding plumage) and has fully replaced inner primaries P1 and P2 while P3, P4 and P5 have been dropped.

P8 shows a deep tongue, P9 has a medium mirror across the inner web and outer web, P10 has a large mirror which does not fully cover the tip.

The iris is dark, the bill green/yellow without markings.
