Images of first-calendar year Baltic Gulls Larus fuscus fuscus, for your reference and enjoyment.
All images were taken in Stockholm, Sweden, around the Skeppsbron area, 7 – 10 August 2015.
Bird #1
These photos taken on 8 August 2015 show that this bird has already started replacing some of its scapulars and lesser coverts. Images taken by Alan Dalton 6 days later show an even more progressed moult.
Above: my photo from August 8.
Above: Alan Dalton’s photo of August 14. Note the progression in the scapular moult.
Bird #2
A very dark bird with much black in the tail and a dark underwing. The photos were taken at 6 o’clock in the morning on Monday 10 August 2015 during my last photo shoot before leaving Stockholm.
Bird #3
Birds #4 and 5
Alan and I found these siblings at the town hall, with a parent protectively flying overhead.
Birds #6 – 13
Underwings
A few more underwings.
Tail patterns
To finish, a selection of tail patterns.
Just beautiful photographs – what detail on the feathers!
