After installing the Marked Birds Database for the first time, a few items need to be set up.

Note: the video shows a relatively old version of the database; however, the principle is the same.
Step 1. Open the database.
The Welcome screen appears.
Step 2. In ‘Choose what you want to do’, select ‘I am new and want to start with an empty database’.
Step 3. Click Continue.
The setup window appears. You will be guided through the necessary steps.
Step 4. Add yourself as an observer by clicking Add and in the window that appears, add at least your first name, last name and nationality, and make sure that the option ‘Observer’ is selected. Click Save and Close.
You can change or add observers at any time by choosing Manage MBDB > Observers/Ringers.
Step 5. Click Continue.
Step 6. Add a bird species and specify its name and scientific name, and set the body color and leg color.
To add more bird species, click Save, View List and Add. When done, click Close.
You can change or add bird species at any time by choosing Manage MBDB > Bird Species.
Step 7. Click Continue to move to Step 3.
Step 8. Add a ringing station that you are likely to use most often and specify its name and country.
To add more ringing stations, click Save, View List and Add. When done, click Close.
You can change or add ringing stations at any time by choosing Manage MBDB > Ringing Stations.
Step 9. Click Continue to move to Step 4.
Step 10. Set the preferences (note that there are multiple tabs). Your changes are automatically saved. When done, click Close.
You can change the preferences at any time by choosing Manage MBDB > Preferences.
Step 11. Click Continue to move to Step 5.
Step 12. Click Add to add your first bird. 🙂
Step 14. (Optional but recommended) Access the Manage MBDB menu and add more bird species, locations, ringing stations and observers/ringers.
