While the breeding season is getting nearer and adult Herring Gulls are returning to the colonies to occupy their territory together with their partners, for some the previous season is still ongoing.
This local Herring Gull that I observed today is still looking after its two young, some 9 months after they were born.
I have seen this little family a few times over the past couple of weeks and witnessed one occasion where the adult was still regurgitating food for the young. Looking at the way they are still following the adult and their constant begging, this is still going on.
I wonder when the adult will think ‘enough is enough’ and will start breeding again.
