Preparing the Marked Birds Database for the new calendar year

It’s a new year which means that the Marked Birds Database also needs to be updated, specifically the Current Age of each bird. This age is expressed in calendar years and therefore needs to increased by 1.

Updating this age can be done automatically but this process needs to be started manually.

To remind you of this, a notification in the form of a yellow box appears in the lower left corner on the Bird Overview screen as soon as a new year begins.

Click it and follow the steps on screen.

Note: In version 2.5.0, this notification unfortunately appears behind other objects. It can still be clicked though.

Let the process run until it is complete. Once the process is done, the yellow notification does not appear until the next new year.

If you don’t see the notification at all, you are probably using an older version. In that case, do the following:
Click Manage MBDB > Actions > Update Current Age for all Birds, and follow the steps on screen.
Update to the latest version of the Marked Birds Database.
