The return of Lesser Black-backed Gull Green YAPC – 20200827

I was thrilled to come across Lesser Black-backed Gull Green YAPC from our IJmuiden Forteiland project tonight in the harbour of IJmuiden.

Originally ringed as a pullus as White SA9 in the Europoort colony of Rotterdam in 1998, it was caught and ringed as a breeding bird in our Forteiland colony in 2010 where it was also seen as a breeder in 2011 and 2012, but not in 2013.

In 2014 it turned up in nearby Zaandam, conveniently breeding in the colony of our other gull project.

In 2016 that colony disappeared and we saw it briefly back at Forteiland that year.

If my data is correct, it was reported only 4 more times since then: twice in 2017 and twice in 2018.

The last time I saw it was in May 2016…

Welcome back YAPC, good to see you doing well at 22 years of age!
